The above image shows by unedited footage and all the clips in one format before any edits and cuts have been made to the clips to create the music video itself. before nay edits and changes were made to these clips I first imported the song before adding all of the clips into the Final Cut Pro project after reviewing all the footage and deciding which clips were usable and which were not based on factors like appropriate lighting and actors potentially breaking the fourth wall when filming the footage the clips that were not usable were all put into a collective folder and the ones that were where then imported into my project . with all of the unedited footage my video came to roughly 7 minutes long meaning a lot of the clips needed to be cut down to meet the 3:45 song and match the visuals to the lyrics that I had intended in my initial shot script that was used to plan the clips. when revising the footage I decided that a lot of my clips particularly the memories of the two girls together that I filmed will be edited to black and white and cut down to create a montage like effect of the clips together, the black and white was chosen to help create a stronger effect of emotion and strongly enhance that idea that these clips were intended to be viewed as memories and something from the past, so instead of choosing the clips to be colourful to help convey a negative emotion to the viewers and further enhance the importance and emotion of these clips. alongside adjusting the colour of these clips I also edited them together and made some of them to be a slower speed to create a montage like effect of the 'memories' making it appear to viewers to be perfected memory to my protagonist and again highlight the importance of it to viewers and the emotions and symbolic meanings behind the clips and what was In them.
the theme of grief, loss and loss of innocence is a common theme in my music video. to display this i used the prop of the teddy bear frequently intending to be that representation of childhood comfort and the symbol of innocence that you can clearly see in the music video my protagonist tried so hard to cling to rather than deal with the grief and accept the innocence of life has gone. this was done through iconography and using the teddy bear as thazt symbolic image for the audience
“Childhood is not from birth to a certain age, childhood is the kingdom where nobody dies” – Edna St Vincent Millay this quote was a key thing that inspired the theme of the teddy bear in my music video again relaying the idea that childhood and youth is the kingdom and place where death doesn't exist and as death does occur people try so hard to cling to that childhood and its innocence.
To allow the viewers of the music video to relate further to the music video and the experiences more I created the sets of all the scenes and shots to be that of normal and familiar environments, so instead of using cgi or expensive locations, I used familiar locations like kitchens bedrooms and other house rooms to help create an environment that would appear to be comfortable and allow the viewer to further relate to the protagonist and the emotions and scenes portrayed through the visuals.
I included the song title in my music video so that if any viewers of the music video either on other platforms or at the music festival they will be able to find the song and explore songs similar and in the genre. the is a typical style in this genre to include the name of the song and song.
When inserting and choosing the position of the clips I decided to create a cyclical sequence in my music video and used black and white chosen memories of the two girls together to keep reminding the audience of the good memories but also to help portray to the audience that memories and the emotions including grief that my protagonist struggles with. My sequencing also signifies how those emotions are not temporary and how the smallest things can be that reminder and how the memories can be brought back to someone so easily, so by using the clips of the girls regularly I am able to create that idea.
the mise-en-scene in my music video was specifically chosen to represent the emotion and sadness in my music video, to help convey this I ensured that my characters wore clothes that reflected that emotion in the scene so if the video were to be of my protagonist upset her clothes and makeup and the lighting in that scene would reflect that by having her wear dark colours and be in a dark setting with low lighting and no harsh or bright colours.
in the clips towards the start of my music video the protagonist will be seen to wear entirely black clothing (not in flash backs) this is done to clearly display to the audience that she is in mourning using the typical colours that represent such things like pain and sadness. also in these clips will be seen the teddy bear aas again a iconography of grief and the loss of innocence that my music video is based on the idea of. the location of these scenes and the lighting was intended to create a homely and warm environment to contrast with the protagonist and make her stand out as suffering herself but to show that the world around her is not and as she might stop everything else doesn't.
the original intentions of my music video was to have multiple scenes throughout the music video from a funeral setting but i filming and the production of the tv show i thought that it would be far more effective for the music video to display emotive and relatable memories for an audience to help gain a further understanding of my protagonists friendship and some of the experiences they and together instead of more scenes if the funeral i deemed it more suited to the genre and the target audience to display memories.
